Acupuncture & Asian Medicine

The practice of acupuncture and Asian Medicine (including herbal medicine and bodywork) incorporates medical traditions from China, Japan, Korea, and other countries.  Acupuncture is one of the essential elements and the oldest, most commonly used medical procedure in the world, it includes acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, cupping, manual therapies such as acupressure, moxibustion, exercises such as tai chi or qi gong, as well as herbal preparations and dietary therapy.

Specifically, acupuncture refers to the stimulation of specific points on the body, by insertion of very fine, sterile, stainless steel needles to elicit a predictable physiological response.   Acupuncture treatment can be used to address a variety of conditions and symptoms in patients, as well as to promote general health and well-being as a preventative treatment.  National and international authorities, including the World Health Organization, the National Institutes of Health, and the American Medical Association, have recognized the effectiveness of acupuncture as a treatment for a wide range of issues, including chronic and post-operative pain, musculoskeletal disorders, respiratory problems, neurological disorders, mental-emotional disorders, gastrointestinal conditions, ear, eye and mouth disorders, and reproductive issues.  In addition, Acupuncture has been shown to provide generalized oxygenation and increased blood flow to specific areas of treatment. It also aids production of cortisone and other anti-inflammatory secretions and can increase the internal production of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers.

During an acupuncture appointment, Dr. Moore assesses a patient’s syndrome or pattern of disharmony by using a set of diagnostic skills. Next, choosing the necessary treatment principle and strategy to prompt the patient back to functional harmony is determined by the exact pattern of the body’s physiological response to internal and external factors.

As an acupuncturist I know how wonderful and beneficial acupuncture treatment can be. I love the Acutonics treatment and the combination of Acutonics and acupuncture. I can feel the vibrations of the tuning forks affecting my Qi in a pleasant and profound way. The treatments I’ve had with Laura have been very helpful for the tightness and strain at my neck, head, and eyes, and have definitely helped with the migraines I’d been having. When I started seeing Laura I was having migraines approximately twice a month. Now I’ve been migraine-free for over two months. Thanks so much for your help and for your lovely, healing ways.
